West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL) has decided to install a 10 MW capacity floating solar power plant at Sagardighi Thermal Power plant. WBPDCL has initiated the process to invite the technical bids for this project. At present, 5MW capacity tender has been floated, in which the bidder will be responsible for Design & Engineering, Manufacture / Procurement, Supply, Erection, Testing and Commissioning of this project. This also includes the obligation of five years comprehensive operation and Maintenance. The lowest bidder who will meet the criteria will be awarded the project.

Floating solar power plant offers many advantages such as water volume retention, lower cost due to no cost of land acquisition, etc. Additionally, there are many water quality benefits for e.g. By shading the water, floating solar farms also inhibit the growth of water weeds (that require sunlight for photosynthesis). This helps save more potable water.
